ODMs Mwashetani says working with Jubilee beneficial to his constituents

Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani says his decision to work with the Jubilee government is motivated by the desire to spur growth in his constituency.

The beleaguered legislator stated that he is aware of the consequences of working with the government, being a member of Ford Kenya, an affiliate of CORD coalition, saying he has no choice but to cooperate with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I know that there have been challenges because of my decision to work with Jubilee government but I know that my relationship with President Kenyatta will be beneficial to my people.”

“Our desire is to be part of the growth being witnessed under the current regime, regardless of our political affiliations.”

Mwashetani stated that his stand should be emulated by other legislators who have the interest of their constituents at heart.

Mwashetani, together with Kilifi South MP Mustafa Iddi, Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima and Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga have been on ODM’s radar after they declared support for Jubilee candidate Philip Charo in the just concluded Malindi by-election instead of ODM’s candidate Willy Mtengo.

His position attracted punishment from CORD which resolved to de-whip him from the House Business Committee, replacing him with Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko.

Iddi, Mwahima and Chidzuga are also under investigation over similar links.

Meanwhile, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has vowed to lead campaigns in various constituencies in Mombasa to push for the removal of ODM rebel MPs.

Speaking during an event to celebrate the victory of Malindi MP-elect Willy Mtengo, Joho said they will begin with a rally in Lunga Lunga to campaign for Mwashetani’s defeat.
