The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has cautioned the public against con men swindling money from people by promising promising jobs and internship opportunities in the organisation.

Through a press statement on Thursday, ODPP said the con men promise their unsuspecting victims jobs but first, they must pay Ksh.3,500 to get a medical clearance.

The criminals, it was claimed, call unsuspecting people through an Orange line and instruct them to go to Aga Khan Hospital to a certain doctor, who is to be seen on appointment for medical tests so that he can directly send the results to the ODPP.

“As you prepare to go, you first call the ‘doctor’ to book an appointment and the ‘doctor’ tells you that he is clearing to leave but takes your details and asks you to send him the money and he will directly send a general report which is acceptable by the ODPP. He further cautions them not to disclose that they never took the test. After sending the money, the phone goes off instantly,” reads the statement.

The ODPP further emphasised that a medical report was not part of the requirements for consideration for shortlisting and final appointment into the advertised posts.

“We therefore caution the public against falling prey to the con men and appeal to anyone who may have been conned to report to the ODPP or DCI. Those found culpable will be prosecuted,”said the ODPP.
