Officer Edgar Mokamba from Nyari police base arrested for murder

Edgar Mokamba, a police constable at Nyari Police Patrol Base in Gigiri is in custody following the death of his civilian companion on Tuesday evening.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the officer who was armed with an AK47 rifle had been deployed as a station guard.

“….he was joined by his regular fiend who frequents at the patrol base located in Nairobi’s Westlands area,” the DCI said.

Mokamba is said to have been chewing miraa with his friend but hours later, shots were heard and an officer in-charge rushed to the scene.

The body of the victim was discovered at the driver’s seat of his Toyota Probox.

Mokamba was disarmed and arrested: he is suspected to have sprayed 10 rounds of ammunition.

“Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing,” the DCI said.

In November, another police officer was arrested after shooting dead his colleague during a confrontation at Gathambi Coffee Factory in Kirinyaga County.

According to Ndia sub-county police boss Joseph Mwika, the two police officers – who are based at Ndiriti Police Station – were guarding the factory when they got into a heated argument.

Two security guards – Patrick Karani and Gerald Muriithi – who witnessed the incident said the argument between the officers began when one of them, who was drunk, was harassing and pestering the other.

The guards said the slain police officer also doubled up as a pastor in a local church.
