Officer from Kamukunji Police Station charged with assault, extortion

A constable from Kamukunji Police Station who was arrested for assaulting two officers at the National Treasury offices has been charged with extortion.

Daniel Arimba Arioba was arraigned on Friday for allegedly threatening to arrest Mohammed Kiptirim arap Cheboi over claims of forging his appointment letter.

It is alleged that on July 24, together with Oliver Tambo who is still at large, Arioba extorted Ksh. 200,000 from Cheboi over the letter linked to the African Disaster Response and Virus Research Foundation.

Rioba was also charged with another count of demanding Ksh.100,000 from one Peter Oyalo Mose with menace.

It is alleged that the officer also threatened the second complainant to charge him with an offence of forging an appointment letter.

The suspect who was presented before Milimani Court Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot denied all the charges.

He further pleaded that the court release him on affordable cash bail as he apparently earns only Ksh.20,000 per month.

The Magistrate released on a Ksh.40,000 cash bail.
