Officer kills wife, shoots self as their children watch

A Police Constable attached to Itabua Police Station in Manyatta, Embu County Friday night shot dead his wife in the presence of their two children before killing himself.

Embu West OCPD Francis Sang says that Constable Paul Rotich arrived home at around 10PM and shot dead his wife Agnes Wakalia, who is also an officer attached to the Dog Unit at the same station.

Mr. Sang says gunshots captured the attention of other officers whose houses are located in the vicinity.

When they rushed to the scene of crime, they found Mr. Rotich had already killed his wife and committed suicide.

The OCPD said the officer was recently transferred to the station from the Sultan Hamud Police Post.

Agnes had already spent some time at the Itabua Police Station where she had been attached before being joined by her husband.

Sang says Mr. Rotich was on night patrol on that fateful day.

He took his armament at 9:30PM before proceeding to his house where he took supper before committing the heinous crime.

He allegedly shot his wife thrice on the head before turning the gun to self.

The OCPD says that he was shocked by the incident since he knew Mr. Rotich to be a hard working and obedient officer.

The late couple has left behind two children aged 6 and 3. Police are investigating the cause of the action by the officer.
