Ojaamong says Treasury to blame for slow development

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong  has accused the National Treasury of hampering development by releasing county funds in piecemeal.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Funyula Stadium, Governor Ojaamong said, ‘‘despite the release of funds in piecemeal counties have made strides in making devolution a reality.’’

Mr Ojaamong urged Funyula MP Paul Otuoma to help counties by monitoring what the  national government was doing with the 85 per cent of the budget.

“I expected my friend Otuoma to tell us how much of the lion’s share of the funds retained by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has trickled down to the grassroots to build secondary schools and other non-devolved functions.’’

But the Funyula MP only sided with President Kenyatta’s admission that corruption was rife in his administration, urging him stamp his authority fight the vice.

“As the Commander -in- Chief of the armed forces, the President should be the last person to lose hope in combating corruption in his own administration,’’ said the MP.
