Interior Cabinet Secertary Dr. Fred Matiang’i says Ol-moran, Sipili & Ol-Ng’arua areas of Laikipia County will be put under one administrative district called Kirima to enable security provision.

This will see the creation of a police division at Ol Moran with enough officers to patrol and boost security, with Ol-Moran being gazetted as the headquarter for Kirima sub-county.

Speaking on Friday as he visited the conflict prone region, Matiang’i said the government will impelement several measures among them training of commandoes in the area to enhance security.

“A training base for elite police units be established in the area to enhance police presence and serve as a buffer zone between Laikipia residents and invaders from neighboring counties,” said the CS.

The government is also planning to deploy surveyors to Laikipia to expedite titling process and reviewor recommend action on lapsed leases or those about to.

Relevant Ministries are also set to be engaged on the ideal management of the Laikipia Conservancy to mitigate its attraction as a conflict hotspot.

For the displaced families, Matiang’i assured that the government will provide food, water, blankets, matresses immediately as well as building materials to assist affected families resettle as soon as possible.

The CS further directed that schools which had been closed in the area due to insecurity be reopened on Monday, further instructing police to provide security to guarantee learning.

Matiangi’s visit to Ol Moran was marked by the torching of 8 homes in the dam samaki area, with bandits showing yet again their capability to evade government security organs.

He, however, expressed confidence that those instigating the attacks will be dealt with ruthlessly.

“More political leaders are on the radar for instigating the attacks ahead of general elections,” he said.
