Omamo: Defense Ministry to partner with counties

The Ministry of Defense has launched a program aimed at visiting all counties in the country that hosts Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) institutions and installations in a bid to build stronger ties.

Speaking in Nakuru when she paid a courtesy call to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, Cabinet Secretary for Defense Raychelle Omamo said that the Ministry is seeking to have a direct and straight line of communication to the counties through the governor’s office.

“We have had such wonderful hosts for the Kenya Defense Forces and especially in Nakuru where the relationship has been old and rich but we want to engage the counties more,” Omamo said.

She further added that the national governments want to have direct communication and partnerships through other engagements that will be of good to all Kenyans.

Omamo said the Ministry has also started a program dubbed ‘Environmental Solder’ where officers will be involved in planting trees and conserving the environment at large.

‘This is another way for us to enhance our cooperation; if you have a need to plant trees in your county, we are ready to do it with you under this program. We would like the presence of KDF in a county to be a tool for the advancement of the county,’ said Omamo.

Governor Mbugua welcomed the initiative which he said will used to demystify the defense sector to the extent that the public will now be able to identify with KDF.

Mr Mbugua appreciated the role played by KDF in the county.

“We are proud that the KDF department has done great things that need applauding. They have helped us in preparation for terror attack and also in our preparation for the El Nino rains that are expected soon,” said the governor.

He noted that the strength of KDF in the country solely depend on the goodwill of the people.

The meeting was also attended by Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto among other county officials.
