Omar Lali, boyfriend of late Keroche director Tecra Muigai, detained for 21 days

Omar Lali, the boyfriend of deceased Keroche Breweries director Tecra Muigai, will now remain in police custody for 21 more days pending investigations into her death.

Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba issued the order on Tuesday to allow homicide detectives conclude probe into the circumstances that led to the fall and eventual death of Ms. Muigai, the daughter of Keroche Breweries Chairman Joseph Karanja and CEO Tabitha Karanja.

Lali is reportedly the prime suspect into the death of Ms. Muigai and will be held at a Lamu police station.

He was arrested after detectives reportedly picked inconsistencies with his account of how the Keroche Breweries director of strategy and innovation met her death.

Lali, who has been living at Shela in Lamu with Ms. Muigai since April, initially said she tumbled down the stairs before later changing his account to say she tripped in the bathroom.

None of the versions of events were however consistent with the accounts given by responders who took Ms. Muigai to hospital.

The deceased’s friend reportedly found her lying unconscious at the apartment she was living in with her boyfriend, with blood oozing from her mouth.

The reports added that Lali was sound asleep and had to be waken up by the friends who quickly took Ms. Muigai to a local dispensary.

They then called her mother who sent a private helicopter to pick Ms. Muigai from the Manda airport. Unfortunately, she had bled considerably hence succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment in Nairobi.
