Omtatah asks court to suspend RBA contributions over coronavirus

Activist Okiya Omtatah has filed an urgent petition seeking to have the court suspend a notice from the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) requiring members to file returns and remit their contributions.

RBA early this month warned pensioners against failure to remit member contributions and file returns in accordance with the law, adding that those found not doing so will have their licences revoked.

Omtatah, in the petition, termed this as impossible with the ongoing restrictions and social distancing orders in accordance with the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to the activist, it is unreasonable and legally invalid to demand that trustees service providers and members of the RBS endanger life so as to comply with statutory deadlines.
