Omtatah Sues KRA

The board of directors of the Kenya Revenue Authority is set to be sued for allegedly failing to collect 2 point 4 billion shillings in tax arrears from kingsway tyres and automart limited. In a petition that has been certified as urgent by High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola, human rights activists’ Okiya Omtatah and Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed further want the kra board to stand trial for abetting tax evasion by permitting kingsway to enjoy clean tax compliance status under a new business name. And as patrick igunza reports, the petitioners have implicated former kra commissioner general, Michael Waweru and Mumo Matemu, the chairman of the ethics and anti-corruption commission, who formerly served as KRA commissioner, in the matter.
