Omtatah to serve MPs via newspaper on Ksh.250K house allowance suit

The High Court has granted Okiya Omtatah’s request to serve 420 MPs by substituted service through the Press.

He will be expected to place an advertorial notice in two daily newspapers of national circulation.

The orders were approved after Omtatah told the court that it would be difficult for him to serve all the lawmakers in person.

“To serve each MP is a difficult task that may take long,” the court noted.

This order has been granted following a petition that was launched by the activist under a certificate of urgency.

He is seeking to have the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) restricted from paying any house allowance to the MPs.

He argued that no State officer should be paid outside their gross salary since it is unconstitutional and payment of such will create inequity in remuneration and benefits.

He said that MP’s are already entitled to a mortgage of Ksh.20million per term to be used for their housing needs, and therefore, any further house allowance would be unreasonable.

The matter will be mentioned on June 11 this year.
