One child killed as lightning strikes Nandi village

One child is reported to have died and two others seriously injured after lightning Nyachek village in Nandi County.

This comes even as the region continues experiencing heavy rains accompanied by storms and strong winds.

Residents say the victims were sleeping in the kitchen and their grandmother, who was taking care of them, was in the main house.

According to Joakim Kitur, a neighbour, the victims were found under the bed with one already dead while the other one sustained serious injuries.

The residents were forced to carry the victims to the hospital using sacks as stretchers since the County Ambulances were not available.

The residents have appealed to the government to install lightning arrestors to help curb increased cases of lightening that has led to loss of lives and property in the recent past.
