One dead, 7 injured after minibus rams into motorcycle

One person died while seven others are nursing serious injuries after a minibus and a motorcycle were involved in an accident near Misambi trading center on Oyugis – Kisumu Road on Saturday night.

Victor Owuor died after the driver of the minibus bus which was ferrying mourners, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of his motorcycle, killing him on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County Police Commandeer Marius Tum said the minibus, which was heading towards Oyugis, veered off the road and rolled several times.

The county police boss added that seven passengers who sustained serious injuries during the incident were rushed to Matata Hospital in Oyugis town where they are currently admitted while the body of the deceased was taken to Rachuonyo District Hospital mortuary.

Mr. Tum said the driver of the minibus identified as Michael Wambua Maina, has since been arrested and detained at Oyugis Police station awaiting arraignment.

He further urged drivers and motorcycle riders to observe traffic rules in order to prevent such accidents.

The motorcycle and bus involved in the accident were towed to Oyugis Police Station pending inspection.
