One dead as tanker bursts into flames in Mai Mahiu

At least one person died and three others seriously injured following a multiple vehicles accident along the busy Narok- Mai Mahiu road.

The accident left four vehicles completed burnt down after an oil tanker busted into flames near the Mai Mahiu trading center. Six other vehicles were completely damaged.

The accident occurred after a trailer ferrying drums of bitumen developed a mechanical problem while moving downhill ramming into a fleet of vehicles ahead of it. The vehicles then lost control and the tanker ahead bursted into flames which spread quickly to the other vehicles.

According to Kenya Red Cross coordinator in Naivasha, Felistus Kioko, three victims, including a woman, were rushed to Naivasha sub-county referral hospital with serious burns.

Kioko termed their condition as serious adding that they had suffered over 70 percent burns.

Mwangi, a survivor who suffered head injuries, said that six trucks were hit by the trailer from behind before it clashed into a personal car that had four occupants.

“Both the trailer and the personal car burst into flames,” he said.

The Kenya Red Cross said that the National Youth Service fire brigade was called in to contain the ensuing inferno that was quickly spreading.
