One dead, cattle stolen in Meru shortly after Nkaisserys meeting

A herder is feared dead and over 30 heads of cattle stolen after cattle rustlers attacked Mitoene village in Igembe North Sub County.

The raid come just a few hours after a peace meeting that was held between Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and elders from Meru and Isiolo counties to tackle cases of insecurity, which have been on the increase in the area.

Speaking to Muuga FM on phone, Igembe North MP Joseph Eruaki said that the event happened shortly after the cabinet secretary left, adding that it shows that the government does not honour its promises.

”This shows that the government is not fulfilling its promises to protect the people,” said Eruaki.

The cabinet secretary for Interior and Coordination, Joseph Nkaissery, had warned residents that the government would respond with firm action to see to it that peace is restored.

On Friday, Meru residents who were irked by the increased cases of cattle rustling protested in the streets where they burned tyres and closed major roads linking Meru and Isiolo Counties to drive home their message.

However, the rustlers seem unshaken by the stern warning from the government and the protests by locals.
