One dead, scores injured in Kakamega accident

One person died on the spot and several others were injured in a road accident at Ikonyero area near Kakamega Town after a matatu reportedly collided head-on with a bus.

Police say the Eldoret Express bus was heading to Mumias when it collided with the matatu that was heading in the opposite direction.

Kakamega Governor Wycliff Oparanya has called on motorists to exercise caution on the roads especially during this season when heavy rains are pounding the area.

The accident comes just a day after two people died and another one was injured in a road accident at Kirwarwa area on the Mwea-Embu road in Kirinyaga County.

The trio was reportedly driving from Makutano Trading Centre to Kirwarwa when another car hit them, killing two of them on the spot.

According to police and relatives, one of the deceased was a Form Three student at Good Samaritan Secondary School and one of the injured was a pupil at Kirwara Primary School.
