One injured after rival youths clash in Kakamega

One person was injured after youths reportedly linked to Sports CS Rashid Echesa and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala clashed in Kakamega.

The man was rushed to St. Mary’s Mumias Hospital following the Friday evening incident.

On Friday, a convoy belonging to the CS was attacked at Mayoni area in Matungu sparking rumours that he had been injured.

However, it later emerged that he was not in the vehicle at the time of the fracas.

“Dear Kenyans, kindly ignore the fake news alleging my involvement in a scuffle with my Brother Senator Cleophas Malala today (Friday) in Kakamega County …

“The life of every Kenyan deserves to be respected. Let us maintain peace and build our country Kenya,” he said on Twitter.

A video showed youths attacking two vehicles allegedly belonging the CS and Mayoni MCA Libinous Odour.

Police had to intervene and fired shots in the air to disperse the irate group who were armed with stones and other crude weapons.

A driver identified as William Oloo was also caught in the melee.

Senator Malala, who later spoke to journalists after recording a statement at Mumias Police Station, condemned the attack

Mumias OCPD Peter Kattam said investigations have been launched into the incident.
