One injured as Eastlands-bound train derails

One person was injured after an Embakasi-bound train crashed into an oil tanker at Query area in Donholm, Nairobi.

The accident, which happened Wednesday, May 7 at around 6:30 am, occurred when the train from town veered off the rail after hitting the tanker.

Witnesses at the scene to Citizen Digital that the empty train that was heading to Eastlands to pick commuters hooted continously for the driver of the tanker to move but he was not in a position to.

However, the tanker driver and his co-driver escaped death narrowly with very minor injuries.

St. Johns Ambulance’ Emergency Medical Technician, John Masese, said that the injured lady was not hit by the train but was aboard a nearby motorbike that crumbled out of fear.

“We received a call from someone and we responded immediately. The trailer was trying to cross but unfortunately the train had already reached. We rushed the lady to Mama Lucy Hospital where he is recovering from injuries she sustained on the head because she was not wearing a helmet,” said Mr. Masese.
