One Kenya Alliance leaders dismiss talk of backing Raila Odinga

One Kenya Alliance principles are digging in on the push to have them back odm party leader raila odinga. a day after the Mombasa state house meeting, the leaders are adamant that they are responsible for their constituents in such a decision.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to be keen on a Raila candidature given Odinga’s popularity, charisma, influence and countrywide support base.

That notwithstanding, the president, the opposition chief and his former allies find themselves in a precarious position—a day after the Mombasa State House meeting, the three One Kenya Alliance principles were standing their ground.

The Odinga factor hanging over their heads and necks overshadowing their quest to succeed the president.

The trio not budging just yet, despite pressure to unify under one umbrella with Odinga

“No one asked or even suggested that we support anyone for anything,” Mudavadi says.

The trio are under intense pressure both from the president’s inner circle and their constituents.

While the president’s men are pushing the One Kenya Alliance principles to cede ground, shelve their bids in favour of Odinga,hardliners around ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have pushed the duo to stand their ground claiming they have carried Odinga for far too long

The Odinga axis has it that the opposition chief has a strong support base countrywide compared to the three, enjoys both local and international networks and wields strong financial muscle to support a presidential campaign compared to the three.

And an Odinga candidature with the backing of the trio is expected to deal deputy President William Ruto a fatal blow at the presidential ballot in 2022.
