One killed, 800 livestock stolen in Turkana bandit attack

One person was on Thursday shot dead and another injured after bandits raided a grazing field in Lobokat, Turkana County and made away with over 800 goats and sheep.

The more than 50 armed bandits believed to be from Pokot County launched a 4-hour attack on a grazing field moments before fleeing with herds of livestock towards Amolem in Sigor Constituency.

This incident comes just three days after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet toured the volatile area of Turkwell region hoping to restore calm between the warring communities, the situation, however, remains volatile.

The sustained clashes along the Turkana-Pokot border have now forced residents to flee their homes in search of safety.

Elsewhere in Transmara, eight people were killed and several others injured in Kimintent Ward in clashes between neighbouring communities.

Property of unknown value was destroyed in the fighting.

Police have, however, managed to restore relative calm to the area.
