One killed, another injured in Narok attacks

One person died while another one sustained serious injuries Saturday night following what has been termed as a retaliatory attack by one of the communities living along the Narok – Migori border.

The 22-year-old victim, identified as Robert Kipkemboi Bii, was killed after unknown people attacked Nakwenyi Village in Narok on Saturday, August 6th night.

Njipship Location chief, Titus Olegut, who spoke to Citizen Digital on phone, said that the two men were ambushed at their home Saturday night by a group of five armed men.

Olegut said the injured was rushed to a local health center for medical attention while the deceased’s body was removed to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.

Tension remains high in the area as the residents express fear of more attacks from the assailants. They are now calling on the government to beef up security in the area so as to avert more deaths through inter-ethnic flare-ups.

“The government should send more security personnel to this area or else the attacks will continue and more deaths will be reported,” said a resident.

For some time now, the warring communities living along the Narok – Migori border have clashed over cattle rustling and allegations of land grabbing.

Several people have been killed in the perennial clashes while hundreds others have been rendered homeless.

The residents further want the government to come up with a lasting solution to ensure the issue is addressed once and for all.

Meanwhile, Narok County Commissioner, Moffat Kangi, has assured the residents that security has been beefed up as more security officers have been deployed to the volatile area.
