One killed in suspected bandit attack

One person has been killed and two others seriously injured after they were they attacked by suspected Pokot bandits in Kerio Valley.

The three were riding on a boda boda when the assailants opened fire on them along Arror-Chesongoch road in Mon Location, Marakwet East sub-county, killing one woman on the spot.

According to area Chief Benedict Chebii, the boda boda rider, Timothy Kiprono, and a female passenger were rushed to Kapsowar Mission hospital in critical condition and are now in ICU.

The assailants escaped towards Lomuke in neighbouring Baringo County even as police launched investigations.

The two women passengers are said to have been returning to their homes from a local health facility in Mogil.

The attack comes just a day after one person was killed when suspected Pokot attackers opened fire on passengers in Chesongoch in Kerio Valley.

The latest series of attacks has heightened tension in the largely pastoral region forcing residents to flee their homes in search of safety.
