One more killed in road crash as Transline Sacco claims innocence

One person died on the spot and twelve others were critically   injured when a bus and a truck crashed along Kisii-Keroka road in at Eremo area of Kisii County on Saturday night.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of the Cardinal Company bus lost control as he tried to dodge an oncoming loaded truck.

A Kisii Referral Hospital doctor confirmed the accident, saying that the hospital received twelve survivors; he stated that three others were at Keumbu Hospital and discharged.

The accident occurred barely two weeks after another crash claimed the lives of 8 university students in the same region.

Over 20 people have been killed over the weekend in a series of road accidents across the country.

Transline Sacco dispute

Speaking on Saturday after a grisly accident claimed nine lives in Mai-Mahiu, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director Francis Meja stated that the authority had revoked the operating license of all Transline Sacco vehicles.

The Kisii-based transport group has, however, distanced themselves from the accident, saying the ill-fated vehicle did not belong to their Sacco.

Speaking in Kisii town, the Sacco Director, Erick  Kombo termed NTSA’s action as punitive, adding that it was harming an innocent party.

He argued that the name ‘’Transline’’ appeared to be a trade mark for more than one PSV company in the area.

Kombo vowed to take up the issue with the NTSA Monday as halting the Saccos’ operation was causing the group to lose close to Ksh1 million daily.
