One of 5 escaped hardcore criminals arrested

Police on Wednesday arrested one of the five hardcore criminals who escaped from Thika Law Courts on Tuesday.

While confirming the arrest, Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia said police are closing in on the other four who are still on the run.

The five were among criminals from Industrial Area GK Prison in Nairobi who had been ferried to the Thika Law Courts for the mention of their cases.

Muthamia said that while in the court cells, the five who are facing various charges of robbery with violence used master keys to open the cell doors before their escape.

The five are Reuben Chege, Bernard Mwangi, Charles Wambua, Joseph Muchiri and Paul Chege.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter.
