One person arrested over Kisumu–Nandi County clashes

One person has been arrested in Kisumu following the recent clashes between two warring communities living on the border of Kisumu and Nandi Counties that led to the death of three people.
Confirming the arrest, Kisumu County Security Coordinator Joseph Limo said investigations are underway to arrest more suspects who were involved in the murder of the three during the clashes last week.

Meanwhile, calm has returned in the area after days of clashes between the two communities.

Kisumu County leaders led by Governor Jack Ranguma, Muhoroni Member of Parliament Onyango Koyoo and his Nyando counterpart Fred Outa now want the government to forestall further flare-ups.

The leaders said there have been consistent misunderstandings between the two communities and they now want the government to arbitrate the dispute.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery urged area leaders to exercise patience and wait for investigations into the matter.

The two communities clashed on Thursday after claims of cattle rustling, leading to the death of three people and torching of several houses.

The Kisumu County security coordinator assured area residents that security has been beefed up to avert further deaths.
