Ongoro Secondary School teacher arrested for alleged rape, assault

A secondary school teacher was arrested on Thursday morning in Rachuonyo East, HomaBay county for allegedly raping a 31- year old woman.

The suspect, Basil Kaunda Onyango, a teacher at Ongoro Secondary School is accused of raping Liz Adhiambo a week ago before going into hiding.

Ms. Adhiambo was found the following day in a pool of blood with severe injuries on her face.

She was rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where she is still admitted.

According to Rachuonyo East Sub county police commander Charles Barasa, the suspect had switched off his phone and disappeared to an unknown location after the incident.

Barasa said Mr. Onyango is suspected to have lured the victim to leave a bar with him on a motorbike.

She was found half naked a day later with severe injuries on the body, an indication that she was first attacked and raped.

The police boss said the teacher appeared on Wednesday at Oyugis Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office accompanied by his lawyer.

In the process, he was arrested and wis expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
