ONLINE BRIEFS: Memusi Takes Over From Nkaissery

IEBC has asked those with evidence of election malpractices during the recently concluded Kajiado Central by-election to formerly file an official complaint through the appropriate channels. IEBC was reacting to media reports insinuating that ODM’s Elijah Memusi won the seat unfairly. This comes even as Jubilee candidate Patrick Tutui is said to be preparing to file his petition on Monday. Memusi was handed over the constituency office by his predecessor Major (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery.

 

ICC WITNESS MESHACK YEBEI BURIED

The body of the International Criminal Court (ICC) witness Meshack Yebei has finally been buried in his ancestral land in Kaptebee village, Uasin Gishu County. A sombre mood engulfed the village as family and neighbors paid their last respect to the slain man, whose mysterious disappearance, death and body identification remain a puzzle. During the emotional service, family members gave the government forty days to arrest those behind the ruthless murder of their kinsman.

 

WAR ON JIGGERS ESCALATED

There is hope of eradicating jiggers countrywide, with the stigma associated with the menace having dropped by eighty-five percent. According To Ahadi Kenya Trust CEO Dr. Stanley Kamau, this has been achieved through continuous anti-jigger campaigns for the last eight years. While speaking in Mbale Primary School in Vihiga County, Kamau called upon Non-Governmental Organizations to join the fight, since the government has developed a policy on jigger-eradication.

 

NAMIBIA’S NEW PRESIDENT SWORN IN

President Hage Geingob of Namibia has been inaugurated as the country’s third president since independence. The 73 year old Geingob succeeds Hifikepunye Pohamba, who stepped down after serving his two constitutional terms. Among those who witnessed the historic event were President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, together with 12 other Heads of State.
