Open Waki envelope, opposition leaders tell gov’t

As leaders of the Jubilee Administration gathered in Nakuru for thanksgiving prayers following the collapse of the ICC cases against the Ocampo Six, opposition leaders led by minority leader in the National Assembly Jakoyo Midiwo called for the opening of the Waki envelope. This they said would be the best foundation for reconciling Kenyans.

“Let us know what exactly happened, you cannot reconcile without truth. If there is some little bahasha let it be a basis for us to know what happened so that we can reconcile,” said Oburu Oginga.

Speaking in Siaya County, Gem MP and Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo said this would help Kenyans pursue a more truthful process towards national healing

“Begin to chart the way forward beyond ICC and the way forward is injustices of land, the causes and sub causes of the 2007 violence, and we need to talk about the IEBC and the future of the election commission,” said Midiwo.

Jakoyo further said it was wrong for Jubilee leaders to accuse former Prime Minister Raila Odinga of being the mastermind of the collapsed ICC cases.

“For Uhuru to stand there and say that Raila wanted Ruto jailed is a lie, Ruto is sleeping with a snake and a snake that will bite,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking on the same issues, Ford Kenya leaders led by Moses Wetangula have called on the government to focus on ending the rampant corruption as well as compensating those who were affected by the 2007 violence

“I want to hear an announcement that people will be taken back to their land,” said Senator Bonny Khalwale.

The leaders claimed that the government has not been sincere in its bid to resettle all the post election violence victims, adding that some are still living in tents in Trans Nzoia.
