ORD Picks Kariuki For Mathare Race

The coalition says it will now field Steve Kariuki as the only candidate for the forthcoming Mathare by-election

CORD principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula said only Kariuki will represent CORD in the race scheduled for August 7th this year.

Addressing a news conference early Tuesday, the leaders said their candidates in Bonchari lost to Ford-P's Zebedeo Opore due to a split between Wiper Party and ODM parties

The two affiliates of CORD fielded candidates in the by election thus losing to Opore who garnered over 10,000 votes

Pundits say that if the wiper and ODM candidates agreed to field only one candidate, then the results in the by election would have been different.

Meanwhile, the leaders have maintained that the Saba Saba rallies are still on

They demanded that the police provides security during the meeting slated for July 7th.

The leaders asked Kenyans who will be attending the rallies to be peaceful

Deputy President William Ruto has assured Kenyans of elaborate security measures ahead of the rallies.

This follows fears that the rallies that are to be held at the Kamukunji grounds on July 7th may degenerate into mass protests.
