Orengo asks DP Ruto to record statement over Ksh.21B dams scandal

Siaya County Senator James Orengo has challenged Deputy President William Ruto to come out and record a statement over the Ksh.21 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal.

This comes after DP Ruto stated that the money that might have been lost in the dams’ scandal was only Ksh.7 billion and not Ksh.21 billion as stated by the Director of Criminal Investigations.

According to Mr. Orengo, the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has further established that the money could have been more than the above mentioned figures.

“(DP) Ruto was telling the country that we have lost only Ksh.7 billion, (Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry) Rotich said it is Ksh.21 billion; today there is a government statement coming from (DPP) Noordin Haji saying it is Ksh.65 billion,” said the Senate Minority Leader.

“I’m giving a challenge to Ruto to go to the police and make a statement. He should tell us where he has gotten the figure of Ksh.7B.”

The Senator, speaking in Sega town during the launch of ODM party campaigns for the Ugenya Parliamentary by-election, also dismissed claims that the war on graft was targeting a specific community as claimed by DP Ruto’s allies.

“Ruto should not hide behind his community. He is lying to the world that Uhuru is taking people from the Kalenjin community to court. I have a government record here; out of the people who have been taken to court, Kalenjins are only six,” added the ODM point-man.

Similar sentiments were echoed by other ODM MPs including Samuel Atandi (Alego/Usonga), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and James Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) who warned DP Ruto and his allies against blaming their party leader Raila Odinga for his woes.

The launch was also attended by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, Woman Representative Dr. Christine Ombaka and Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda among others.
