Othaya MP rubbishes CORDs vote stealing claims

Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui has rubbished claims by the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) that the Jubilee administration is planning to rig the 2017 General Elections.

Wambui, who was speaking on Inooro TV Friday morning, said that the claims by the opposition were triggered by the fact that Jubilee would easily win a re-election.

Her comments follow a heated exchange of words between the ruling coalition and the opposition over the 2017 elections.

CORD leader Raila Odinga and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have constantly claimed that Jubilee is already putting up plans to steal the election in 2017 should it lose, something Jubilee terms as ‘mere politics’.

On Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto assured the country, and more so the opposition, that the 2017 polls will be free, fair and transparent.

Wambui further dismissed claims by the opposition that Jubilee had already removed or was conspiring to remove the name of CORD co-principal and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula from the voter register after he was accused of electoral malpractices including alleged voter bribery.

She said that Jubilee is prepared to face any candidate fielded by the opposition and expressed optimism that the party will emerge victorious.

She further dismissed CORD’s claims that Jubilee was undermining the independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by directly or indirectly frustrating it through means such as underfunding it.

The legislator termed the claims as propaganda saying Jubilee is seeking votes in a fair way to ensure victory in the polls.

On Tuesday, Odinga accused Jubilee of “buying off opposition MPs and co-opting other parties in the name of national unity.”

He claimed Jubilee leaders are laying the groundwork to steal votes in 2017 in what he termed as “a reinvention of what their fathers and forefathers did from the 1960s to 2003”.

The CORD leader termed the Jubilee government as “the most corrupt administration in Kenya’s history and in East Africa.”
