Othayas most wanted killer shot dead

Residents of Othaya can now breathe a sigh of relief after an alleged serial killer was ganged down by police at his hideout in the Aberdares Forest.

The alleged killer, known as Samuel Kiboi, is said to have had constructed a makeshift house under a tree inside the thick forest.

Kiboi was also found with utensils and other kitchenware and with a small garden where he had planted vegetables.

Kiboi, who is believed to be in his early 40s, reportedly attacked residents of Rwathini village, which is adjacent to the forest where he would kill them or rob them of their food.

According to residents, Kiboi would sometimes abduct women and force them to cook him food before eating and leaving for an unknown destination.

Two months ago, he is suspected to have killed a couple and shortly after he killed a young man from the village using a panga before fleeing.

Two weeks ago, Kiboi is said to have killed 24-year-old John Mugo, a boda boda rider, using a panga before disappearing again into the forest.

A manhunt launched by police and boda boda operators inside the forest bore no fruits and residents went back home a worried lot.

Kiboi has since been attacking the villagers and robbing food and money from different homes.

Police with the help from the village youths have in the past tried keeping vigil overnight in a bid to capture him but to no avail.

Kiboi’s proverbial forty days however came to be after his attempt to break into one house belonging to an elderly woman on Tuesday evening failed.

Kiboi is said to have attempted to torch the house but neighbours responded quickly and put out the fire…

This incident angered residents whom, together with the Administration Police, launched another manhunt into the forest only to find Kiboi lighting a fire at his hideout.

Kiboi attempted to escape but was shot down by police and his body taken away by police officers.
