Our Lives Are In Danger, MPs Claim

The two were accompanied by Kiambu MP Jude Njomo and Ngewa MCA Karungo Wa Thang'wa to Thika police station.

They recorded a statement with the CID claiming that unknown people have been sent to eliminate them.

Ichungwa claims that his car was shot at by people thinking that he was inside.

The two are calling on the government to provide them with adequate security.

They claim they are fearing for their lives after they intervened to order the opening of Madaraka Market which was closed due to unknown circumstances.

Ichungwa said they want to know who shot traders who are now nursing gunshot wounds and why armed county civilians were at the venue.

He said Kiambu legislators will table a motion in parliament to enquire from the acting Inspector General of Police Samuel Arachi why live bullets were used on unarmed civilians.

Alice also complained that police officers did not give the traders a court order to stop them from continuing with their businesses.

Alice Koki, a trader of oranges, said she was shot by a policewoman in the thigh.

“When we heard our MP was coming, we got nearer the market and that’s when the police lobbed teargas at us. I was unable to run and a police woman shot at me in the thigh” she explained.

The Members of Parliament were speaking when they made a courtesy visit to Alice Koki a trader who was shot during the Madaraka market demonstration .
