Tanzania’s ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has ruled out any possibility of power sharing after the forthcoming presidential elections slated for Sunday, October 25th, 2015.

This is according to Bumbuli Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Information Mr. January Makamba who said CCM will not, in any likely event, share power with the opposition.

Makamba, who was speaking at the CCM’s Dar Es Salaam office Thursday afternoon, said that the party will not allow anybody to question its victory under any circumstances.

The Bumbuli MP, who is also a member of the CCM Presidential Campaigns Committee, said that the party has already conducted its survey and it knows the number of votes it will garner.

“We have carried out an extensive research and we expect to win very early in the morning,” said Makamba in Swahili. “We will garner at least 69% of the total vote cast. There is no doubt about that.”

He said that CCM was aware that the opposition party – Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) – was planning to reject the electoral results and cause instability in the East African country, thereby attracting the attention of the international community.

“We are aware that the opposition is planning to reject the elections results and cause chaos in order to attract the attention of the international community with an aim of power sharing. However, this will not happen even under whatever circumstances,” stated Makamba.

He said CCM is prepared for victory and nothing will stop it from getting the same, adding that the campaigns conducted so far and the preparations made for the elections are a surety of landslide win.

Makamba, who was speaking during the releasing of the closing rallies programme, said for the first time, the opposition coalition should not plant its supporters at the polling stations. He urged Chadema to sensitize its’ followers on the importance of staying away from the polling stations after casting their ballots.

He further called on the security details to ensure that people do not hang around polling stations after voting, because this would cause commotion and disruption of the electoral process.

The ruling party CCM and opposition Chadema have been at loggerheads over the conduct of the election.

Since 1965, CCM has enjoyed unwavering support from the electorate, and this is the first time in 38 years that the party has faced a serious challenger. Should CCM emerge victorious, it will extend its political dominance for five more years.

On the other hand, should Chadema win, history will be made.

Makamba unsuccessfully contested for CCM nominations which were won by Dr. John Pombe Magufuli.

Chadema’s candidate, Edward Ngoyai Lowassa, defected from CCM after the party rejected him during the early nomination stages.

Lowassa served as the Prime Minister under President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete from 2005 – 2008 while Magufuli served as the Minister for Infrastructure until his nomination to contest for the presidency.
