Outsiders killed by Al-Shabaab militants in Wajir

Four people among them three teachers were murdered in the wee hours of Friday by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Qarsa Village, Wajir County.

The teachers; a man, his wife, a male colleague and a friend were shot dead after being ambushed in their houses at 1am. They were all non-locals.

The militants, who seemed to have done groundwork before the assault, planted landmines on the roads leading to the area making it hard for security agencies and ambulances to get there on time.

Wajir Administration Police Commander, Mohammed Sheikh led a team of security officers to the crime scene while another team of officers from  Khorof Harar AP camp pursued the militants from the border line.

Speaking to the press in Wajir town before joining the operation, Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim confirmed that the four had been killed by the militants.

He underscored the need for reinforcement of officers manning police posts along the border since they are vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

“As local leaders, we have on more than one occasion appealed to the national government to consider adding the number of soldiers manning the border and the number of police officers guarding police posts,” said Mr. Kassim.
