Over 20 People Trapped as Kisumu Building Collapses

At least six people have been rushed to various hospitals in Kisumu after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on them.

The six survivors were rescued after they were trapped inside the building that they were working on in Manyatta Market, Kisumu.

According to some of the survivors, construction works on the building had been going on for the last six months.

The survivors say that the building was being constructed in phases over this period.

According to eye witnesses, the contractor – who is still at large – used the wrong materials for the construction leading to the building’s collapse.

Over 25 other people are still trapped in the debris even as rescue efforts by different teams continue.

The rescue exercise was, however, delayed due to the inaccessibility of the area.

The rescue is being carried out by the National Youth Service (NYS), Kenya Police Service, Kenya Red Cross and the Administration Police.

No deaths have been reported so far.
