Over 200 bars in Kikuyu may lack licenses to operate

Over 200 bars may not get licenses to operate in Kikuyu town as the crackdown on illicit brew escalates in Kiambu County.

This was established after a meeting between bar owners and Kikuyu residents where they were given the mandate to vet all liquor outlets in the area.

Speaking during the meeting, Kikuyu Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichungwa said that they intended to reduce all bars in the area to less than a 100 from the current figure of 400.

However, the move has been criticized by most operators who insist the process should be monitored to ensure fairness.

This comes following a presidential directive aimed at stamping out the illicit brew menace that has haunted the country.
