Over 200 health casual workers sacked by Waiguru administration

Over 200 health casual workers in Kirinyaga County have been sacked, months after they demanded to be paid their months salaries.

According to a letter from the County Secretary Joe Muriuki, their current wage bill is unsustainable and is a serious issue that the National Treasury has also raised.

Muriuki added that the Waiguru-led administration has been forced to institute immediate staff rationalisation measures.

Recruitment of new casual workers has also been suspended and only essential labourers temporarily retained.

Workers from Kerugoya Referral Hospital, Kimbimbi, Kianyaga, Sagana and other health centres in Kirinyaga County however maintain that they must be paid their dues first.

The County Secretary assured them that those who were relieved from their duties will be paid up to the last day upon approval of the supplementary budget.
