Over 30 legislators decamp to Jubilee Party

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday, during the Jubilee Party merger meeting at the Kasarani Indoors Arena, Nairobi, received over 30 politicians who have defected from their parties to join the new political vehicle.

Among those who officially quit their parties to join Jubilee Party include Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro who left ODM, Kwale County Women Representatives Zainab Chidzunga who decamped from ODM and Mustafa Iddi of Kilifi South who decamped from ODM to Jubilee.

Other legislators who decamped include Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga, ODM), Samuel Arama (Nakuru West, ODM), Regina Ndambuki (Kilome, Wiper), Stephen Kariuki (Mathare, ODM), Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central, Wiper), John Munuve (Mwingi North, Wiper), Isaac Mwaura (Nominated MP, ODM), Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town, CCU), Vincent Musyoka Musau (Mwala, CCU) and Lawrence Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East, ODM).

Others are Fred Kubai (Igembe Central, ODM), Peter Shehe (Ganze, FPK) Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni, Wiper), Hellen Sambili (Mogotio, KANU), Joseph Lekuton (Laisamis, ODM) and Wesley Korir (Cherangany, Independent) among others.

Receiving the defectors, the DP said that Jubilee Party reflects the face of the country and will foster development.

Ruto had joined thousands of delegates from at least eleven political parties for a joint meeting at the Kasarani Indoor Arena to ratify the formation of the Jubilee Party.

Ruto welcomed the merging of the parties exuding confidence, that the Jubilee Party outfit will form the next government.

The Deputy President also quelled a section of the delegates, who were complaining over unpaid allowances.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially unveil the new Jubilee Party Saturday and is also expected to name the party’s 77-member interim National Executive Committee before unveiling the party’s symbols and slogan.
