Over 300 cows stolen as bandits strike Baringo

Tension is high in Chemorong’ion village in Arabal location, Marigat in Baringo County following an attack by suspected armed Pokot bandits at Kabirwok area, where they are  reported to have sprayed bullets to the herders before making away with the livestock Friday, May 5 night.

According to Gilbert Kiprotich, a resident of Kabirwok village, the bandits engaged the herders and the Kenya Police Reservist (KPRs) in a fire exchange but unfortunately, the Tugen herders were over powered and over 375 cattle driven away towards Paka Hills in Tiaty.

While blaming security officers for not responding to their alarm on time, Kiprotich noted that the attack happened just a few kilometers from Chemorong’ion Administration Police camp.

Residents have now resorted to spending the night in the bushes as they fear sleeping in their homes after word went round that another attack was looming.

The locals further expressed concern with the KDF operation in the area, saying that the impact was not felt.

The locals are now calling on the top security officers in Baringo to ensure that security is beefed up.
