Over 40,000 students get bursaries in Kirinyaga County

The County Government of Kirinyaga has disbursed over Ksh189 million in bursaries to more than 40,000 applicants in a span of three years, Kirinyaga County Governor Joseph Ndathi has said.

Speaking during the Mwea Classic Marathon at Wang’uru Stadium, the governor noted that the bursary has made it possible for more students to be enrolled in day schools in the county.

“Since the marathon began, the number of schools and enrollment has increased, especially day schools. Children have also done exams without being sent home,” he said.

He added that the funds also go towards sports and learning materials, classrooms and sanitary materials.

“The county government has supported the marathon with Ksh800,000 and part of Ksh600,000 will go towards sports and learning materials for the schools in county,’’ he said.
