Overnight electoral protests leave many injured

At least one person has been shot dead by police during overnight demonstrations in Maseno, Kisumu County following the declaration of presidential results by electoral body IEBC last night (August 11).

Kisumu Police Commander, Titus Yoma, confirmed the shooting with several reportedly injured in Kisumu and Siaya Counties.

In Migori County, area police boss, Gladys Rutere, has said police have managed to disperse irate protesters who had barricaded the roads, saying police are working to restore order.

Her counterpart Kisaka Muganda from Rongo in Homa Bay County also confirms demonstrations in Rongo Town, with protesters blocking roads and lighting bonfires even as the streets are now clear even as transportation has been paralyzed.

Similar protests have also reported in parts of Nairobi’s Kibra, Mathare, Babadogo and Kawangware areas with officers deployed to the areas to quell the chaos as order slowly returns.
