Owner, handler of killer dogs charged with negligence in Nyeri

The owner and handler of the six dogs that mauled two-year-old grandson of the late Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, on Thursday have been charged with negligence in a Nyeri court.

The owner, Anthony Gathara, and his employee, John Njuguna, appeared before Nyeri resident magistrate, Wendy Kagendo, where they pleaded not guilty to charges of recklessness and negligence in handling of the pets.

They were accused of failing to keep the animals in an enclosed place as the law demands, a factor leading to the death of  Wilson Ngatia.

The court freed them on a bond of Ksh200,000 or a cash bail of Ksh100,000 each.

Hearing of the case is scheduled to start on September 28, this year.
