Owner of ‘Pimp my ride ’ car wash fights to stop another demolition

Patrick Nderitu, the owner of ‘ Pimp My Ride ’ car wash, has moved to court seeking to stop the Nairobi County Government from demolishing his business.

According to Mr. Nderitu, Nairobi County served him with a seven-day notice on July 2 which indicated that he was carrying out alleged illegal construction on the junction of Kenyatta Avenue and Muindi Mbingu Street.

He expressed fear that the notice is a ploy for Nairobi County Government to gain access to his premises after it lapses on on July 9.

The businessman further claims that he is in lawful possession of the property as he has a lease agreement.

On Wednesday, the court declined to issue the orders stopping any planned demolition but directed that Nairobi County wait for determination of the suit.

“That this court be pleased to issue orders restraining Nairobi County, its workers or anyone working on its behalf from demolishing and interfering with the applicants and tenants and occupations of the premises erected on LR NO. 209/908 Kenyatta Avenue /Muindi Mbingu Street pending hearing and determination of the suit,’’ court papers read.

The matter was certified as urgent and will be heard on July 11.

The car wash that is located on controversial land was demolished back in May despite the manager James Saitoti insisting that they had not been served with any notice of eviction or court order.

The once popular Simmers Restaurant used to be located on the same piece of land.

It was demolished in March last year and the owner later sued Nilestar Holdings Limited, Green Valley Limited, National Land Commission and the Attorney General over the move.
