Seefar apartments owners troop to NEMA offices over planned demolition

Residents of Seefar Apartments in Nairobi held demonstrations over the planned demolition of their homes.

They marched to offices of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) demanding for a comprehensive report on the alleged encroachment of Nairobi Dam.

The survey that was done by Water Resource Management Authority (WARMA) concluded that the houses were built on riparian land.

The residents have however rubbished the claims stating that NEMA has not conducted any investigations concerning the houses.

Last week, the parliamentary committee on Environment visited the area and found out that there were cracks on the walls of Nairobi dam.

However, the committee agreed to make a final decision on the fate of the houses after investigations have been completed.

On the other hand, NEMA has issued a 30-day notice to the residents to vacate the premises before demolition begins.
