Panic as 4 officers, 12 suspects test positive for COVID-19 at police station in Kirinyaga

Kianyaga Police Station in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, is in a state of panic after it emerged that 4 officers as well as 12 suspects presently under lawful custody tested positive for COVID-19.

The infected police officers include three males and one female while the 12 coronavirus-positive detainees are ten males (including one minor in juvenile detention) and two females.

The police officers have since been isolated at the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital where they are being monitored.

A senior officer at the station however told Citizen Digital that the detainees who tested positive for COVID-19 are still being held in the cells together with others who are negative.

He said the cells are currently holding a total of 37 suspects, including the 12.

This, he aid, is due to lack of space at the police station, further adding that, “We have been waiting for advise from the county government in vain.”

Citizen Digital has learnt that fumigation process is currently underway at the police station.
