Panic gripped several villages in Tugunon, Chepseon and other neighbouring locations in Kericho County after a marauding elephant strayed into the village.

The lone elephant was suspected to have strayed from the neighbouring Mau forest on Friday night.

Reports say the animal invaded maize farms in Momoniat village, destroying crops of unknown value.

Hundreds of villagers came out in their numbers to have a glimpse at the animal.

Several hours later, a Kenya Wildlife Services(KWS) helicopter  came and drove the animal back into the Mau forest.
