Panic in Kirinyaga as locusts spotted

Panic has now gripped farmers in Kirinyaga County after a swarm of locusts were on Sunday spotted in Mwea.

Isaac Ndung’u, one of the farmers, was one of the first to spot the insects before later alerting his neighbors and fellow farmers in Riandira village.

Kirinyaga residents, led by Majority Leader in the County Assembly James Kamau, are now calling on the government to intervene.

Mr. Kamau, who is also the Kerugoya ward MCA, urged Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to send his team to the area to control the invasion.

The farmers expressed fear that the locusts may destroy their maize, rice, coffee and napier grass.
