Parallel vote tallying is illegal, Karua warns NASA

Kirinyaga County gubernatorial hopeful, Martha Karua, now says that plans by the opposition coalition – NASA – to set up a parallel vote tallying center during the August 8 General Election is illegal.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kandongu Shopping center in Mwea West Sub-county, Karua said the only referee who is supposed to announce election results is the constitutionally mandated Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“I want to tell my friends from NASA that only IEBC is supposed to announce election results. If aspirants will start to announce their own victory at the expense of the right results, this might brew post-election violence,” said the Narc-Kenya Party leader, who recently endorsed the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta after being against his administration since the 2013 polls.

Karua also took time to condemn and warn land grabbers in the county that their days are numbered, just days after it emerged that a strong land cartel is working hard to grab the ACK-Sponsored Thumaita Girls’ Secondary School playground.
